The public school system in Virginia Beach has a wide-variety of programs available to cover all childrens' needs.  Whether your child needs special assistance due to a learning or physical disability, or you have a child that is especially gifted, there are comprehensive programs available.

Academy Programs:

At the elementary school level, there are two academy programs available:  1. Mathematics and Science, and 2. Foreign Language Partial Immersion. 

At the middle school level, the school system offers the International Baccalaureate (IB) program.

At the high school level, there are seven academy schools available:  1. IB, 2. Global Studies and World Languages, 3. Health Sciences, 4. Mathematics and Science, 5. Technology, 6. Legal Studies, and 7. Visual and Performing Arts.

Gifted Programs:

Virginia Beach offers not only cluster teaching for gifted students but also alternative magnet schools.

Alternative Education:

There are several alternative education programs available, including voch-tech, for students who are either struggling with regular academia or who prefer to pursue a vocational-technical path.
